Design Alternatives: Recessed

The recessed alternative proposes to remove the existing bridges and put the freeway below ground level (in a trench) from City Parkway to Bruce Street. The recessed alternative has the largest footprint since most elements will be 30 feet below ground level. Click on the exhibit to open a high resolution pdf version.

This cross section shows the mainline (primary travel lanes) and the collector-distributor (CD) road in a trench with the ramps coming up to ground level to meet the surface streets.

Typical section of recessed alternative.

This video shows a fly through animation of the recessed alternative. Between Eastern Avenue and the Spaghetti Bowl, the surface streets cross over the freeway.
